Safety is the #1 priority for Motorsport Australia. The scrutineering process is an important aspect of the safety requirements of rallying. It involves a qualified scrutineer (usually a mechanic) who inspects the rally car prior to competition, and certifies that the car and the competitors’ safety gear complies with specified standards. Scrutineering will be available at all events, usually the night before and in the hours immediately before competition commences. Alternatively, there is a system of Regional Scrutineering throughout NSW. This allows you to take your car to a Regional Scrutineer in the week prior to the event and have it scrutineered, rather than having to arrive at the event earlier and get in a long queue. Regional scrutineering is encouraged, as it reduces the load on event organisers, and offers more flexibility to competitors.

Before having your car regionally scrutineered, please consider the following:

• Check the Supp Regs – some event organisers make certain arrangements for scrutineering and may require you to advise them if you are organising regional scrutineering. Understand the requirements of every unique event.
• Book an appointment. Regional scrutineers are all volunteers, so please call and arrange a time with them. Never just “show up”.
• Scrutineering needs to be completed within 7 days prior to an event.
• Take your personal safety gear with you to scrutineering (e.g.helmets, driving suits, etc)
• Take your documents with you, including your vehicle’s log book
• If you have any doubt or questions, phone the Clerk of Course or Event Secretary for clarification

The list of Regional Scrutineers is available in the table below.  Call your nearest scrutineer to make a booking.  Then, take the completed scrutineering form with you to the event to present to the Event Secretary at pre-event Check-in.
